Competition & Events - Yarmouth Clam Festival

Three days of fun and exciting competitions and events.

Details are added as events take shape, so please check back often for updates!

Friday

Clam Festival Parade
Friday, July 16
6 PM
Main Street

Let's celebrate your heroes the whole length of Main Street at the THREE CHEERS FOR CHAMPIONS: YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW parade!

Streets Closed

The following streets will be closed from 5:30 to 7:30 pm for the parade:

  • Main Street
  • West Elm Street
  • McCartney Street
  • Portland Street
  • School Street (remains closed until 10:00 pm)

This year's theme honors Herbie the 217-year-old Champion American Elm tree that Yarmouth lost this year after a 50-year battle with Dutch Elm Disease, as well as Frank Knight, the man who championed Herbie's survival through those 50 years and 14 bouts of the killer disease.

Frank will lead the parade as grand marshal, and float designs will celebrate champions of every kind — those who have inspired us in all aspects of life: sports, imagination, education, social action, the environment...

...the champion is in the eye of the beholder, so show us who yours is! Gather friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors, and build a winning float that puts your hero on a pedestal! Let's make this parade a champion!

Thank You for Sponsoring,
Casco Bay Ford!
Thank You, Associate Sponsors,

And Thank You to WMTW-8 for providing live commentary at the parade!

Clam Shucking

Maine State Clam Shucking Contest

Saturday, July 17
11:00 AM (registration begins at 10:30 am)
Merrill Memorial Library Lawn Tent

Come, watch — and compete! Prizes go to the fastest shuckers in professional, amateur, and college heats (college shuckers, remember to wear your school's colors)!

A "celebrity" heat sets the competitive edge, pitting teams of southern Maine's news, sports, and weather broadcasters against each other. These arch rival shuckers return every year to defend and reclaim their status as fastest clamcasters in the east, west, north, and south.

This year, News 8's Shannon Moss and Norm Karkos will defend their title against News Center 6's Bill Green and Caroline Cornish and News 13's Doug Rafferty and Erin Ovalle. Don't miss it!

Thank you for sponsoring, Hannaford Supermarkets
