Veteran shucker Bill Green's co-champ from last year, Caroline Cornish, was under the weather, so rookie Kirk filled in and did his best.
3rd Place: WGME-13 news team Doug Rafferty and Kate Barker 16 clams shucked
Doug just had surgery last week on knee, so he was shucking on disability.
AMATEUR DIVISION (1-minute heat)
After a shuck-off due to ties for first and third places, our winners were: 1st place: Aleks Dubovik from Framingham, MA 2nd place: Beth Kaulbach from Yarmouth, ME! 3rd place: Diana Held from St. James, NY
COLLEGIATE DIVISION (1-minute heat)
Due to the early hour and perhaps sprinkling of the rain, the college students were probably still sleeping...so, our collegiate division was represented by graduates 1st place: Jim Gustafson of Cumberland, ME, representing UMO 2nd place: Ellen Wersel of San Rafael, CA, representing Colby College 3rd place: Stefanie Dodds of N. PROFESSIONAL DIVISION (2-minute heat) 1st place: 9-time world champion Beattie Quintal of Waldoboro, ME, with a stunning 45 clams! (Can no one unseat this woman?) 2nd place: Joan Perkins of Harpswell, ME, with 24 clams shucked 3rd place: Mary Hanson of Monmouth, ME, with 21 clams shucked
